Zonta International is a worldwide service organization of executives in business and the professions working together to advance the status of women.  Founded in 1919 in Buffalo, New York, there are now 1,200 Zonta clubs, chartered by Zonta International, in 67 countries and geographic areas. Clubs are nonpartisan and nonsectarian.

Mission of Zonta International

• To provide service at the global and local level;
• To improve the legal, political, economic, educational, health and professional status of women;
• To work for the advancement of understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of executives in business and the professions;
• To promote justice and universal respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms;
• To be united internationally to foster high ethical standards, to implement service programs, and to provide mutual support and fellowship for members who serve their communities, their nations, and the universe.

Support for Zonta International’s Service Projects…..

• Zonta supports women’s education and leadership through several programs. The Zonta International Amelia Earhart Fellowship Awards support graduate study by women in aerospace-related sciences and engineering. Since 1938, US $5 million has been raised to support nearly 1,000 fellowships.
• Zonta International, through its Foundation, also supports the Michael J. Freeman Scholarships for Irish Women, and the Young Women in Public Affairs Awards designed to encourage women’s leadership and careers in public policy, government and volunteer organizations. The Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarships support undergraduate study.
• Zonta is committed to women’s development and has supported a series of international service projects in more than 20 countries primarily in cooperation with United Nations agencies. The 2008-2010 Zonta International Projects are:
  • Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV in Rwanda
  • Safe Cities for Women Project in Guatemala City, Guatemala and San Salvador, El Salvador
  • Reduction of Obstetric Fistula in Liberia

• ZISVAW [Zonta International Strategies to Prevent Violence Against Women] is a program of Zonta International, dedicated to eliminating violence against women and children. It is funded by the Zonta International Foundation and focuses on Prevention; Education & Awareness; and Advocacy for Legislative and Political Reform. The 2008-2010 Zonta International Projects are:
  • Ending Violence Against Women in through Community Action (EVAWCA) in Cambodia
  • Combating Physical Violence Against Women and Supporting the Implementation of Protective and Anti-Discriminatory Laws and Policies in Egypt
  • Community-Based Center for Housing and Rehabilitation of Women Victims of Violence in Syria
